spring update

We went from winter to summer in one week! Hot temps melted all the open areas, but there is still snow in the woods, and much of the snowshoed singletrack still has packed ice. Rain today will take care of some of that. The ski trail still is 50% snow covered.

Regardless, any non snow covered areas will be very wet and frost has not come out yet. If you are trying to ride and slopping in the mud and leaving ruts, please turn around. Those ruts will stay all summer and hold water taking the trail longer to dry out.

CFB Petawawa trail crew

We've had some great trail work done by a crew from 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group HQ from CFB Pet. They cut back Cut yer Bars, Poplar Lane, Fence Line, Open Air, and Outhouse Climb. Nicely done. They will go to work on a new section of trail in August.

new trail - White Rim

A new trail is open out near Rocky Top. 1 km of new singletrack that starts at the White ski trail. To find it, as you ride out to Rocky Top on the ski trail you climb the big gravelly hill. At the top of that hill the White ski trail leaves to the right. Tuck in there and the trail is on the left. It is signed and is flagged but will be more thorough with arrows in the next couple of days. It takes you along a rock ridge and pops you out at the start of Rocky Top.
The trail is still rough, but will get better with riding and after I do the fine finishing work.

It's official - Jolly Roger new trail

The new singletrack down to the parking lot is now officially named: Jolly Roger, thanks to some modern art by Glenn L.

Watch for poison ivy in one small section - I put a caution sign on it today. It is the only PI in all of Forest Lea, but won't be a problem assuming you can stay on the trail for 20metres.

Find the new trail after Flat Pass by following the red arrows.
